I had GD too, it's really tough.

What your other responders don't realize is that you're not supposed to have sugar substitutes while you're pregnant. So the sugar free candy and hot cocoa is a no-no.

Eating less will get much easier after a while. If you can stick to the new diet for a couple of weeks, then it won't bother you as much.

Here's what I did, and it worked out really well. You need to start exercising. Because every time you exercise, you get to have extra carbs. And with a little experimentation you can figure out exactly how much extra you can have.

I would walk 2 miles. 1 mile to the store to buy a Snickers bar, and 1 mile back. And when I got back, I got the candy bar. The snickers bar was the better choice because it has nuts in it, which will help keep your blood sugars more level.

I got to the point where I would walk every other day. I wouldn't have a snickers bar every time of course, but I did have more than a few during that time :o)

Even with the candy, the exercise made me lose weight while I was in my last trimester. It actually started to make my GD better to the point I could eat a little more the rest of the time too. And most women get it worse just before the baby is born, not better.
References :
Here are some ideas for the diabetic chocoholic! (I'm one, too)

Sugar-free hot cocoa (I like Nestle but Swiss Miss is good too) - 10g carb
Fudgesicles - w/sugar 12g, sugar free 7g
Dreyer's Slow Churned No Sugar Added ice cream - 17g (careful, just 1 SMALL scoop)
http://dreyers.slowchurned.com/flavorlisting.aspx?b=115

Watch out for the "sugar free" stuff. It still has plenty of carbs, so make sure to read the labels and know how much carb you can eat (ask your doc what your limit is)
References :
What about some sugar free candy, jello or desserts. I know there are diabetic foods in the grocery store. Try some of those...
