what are some meal plans for a diabetic who won’t eat anything green?

My brother in law is planning to visit us for a week.He will not eat any food the color green and he is a diabetic. Breakfast and Lunch are figured out, it is a week of dinners I am having trouble planning.
I did not know that a diabetic could eat wheat tortillas and wheat pasta or about the yukongold potatoes. Thanks for that.
re:Spaghetti and meatballs. Wouldn’t that be too much starch?

My best friends husband is diabetic and you can make grilled chicken with yukongold potatoes (its a complex carb potato the only kind of white potatoes that people with DM can have), as well as red sauce (or gravy depending on what area you are from) with wheat pasta, Anything with pasta as long as it is wheat. Um as well as chicken fajitas as long as the tortilla is wheat, my friend’s husband eat fish a lot, pot roast, pretty much any meat is good, wheat pasta with grilled chicken in a Alfredo sauce. Check out some Diabetic websites. Take care and have a good visit with him.

Just remember lean meats (4 ounces a serving), wheat pastas, brown or wild rice, and the there are a lot of veggies that are not green:
    carrots
    red/yellow bell peppers
    squash
    cauliflower
    tomaotes
    onions
    field peas
    butter beans

Here are a couple of meal suggestions:
Lean roast, roasted carrots, roasted potatoes, butter beans, fresh strawberries for dessert
Baked chicken breasts, brown rice seasoned with garlic, onions, thyme, tomato steaks, (thick sliced tomatoes with cheese on top)
Spag with meat balls, garlic bread

If all else fails, call his wife and ask her what he eats. Every diabetic is different in how we process carbs, and in which carbs are best for us. So what will work for me, may not work for him. Don’t be afraid to ask, even if you have to ask him. Good luck.

Spag and meatballs is fine, just use a whole wheat pasta. Plus it is carbs that have to be counted. He will know how much he can eat. Diabetics are not nearly as limited as we were in the ‘dark ages’ of even 10 years ago.

Nellie is correct, diabetics can eat meals like everyone else. The problem with that is that carbs break down differently for us, and certain ones cause sugar spikes. For example take a slice of bread, if we eat plain white bread we will spike faster and then drop faster then if we ate a slice of whole grain wheat bread. So, technically we can eat anything, but actually we can’t if we want to really control our sugars. And if your brother in law is controlled by diet alone, then he really needs to watch which carbs he eats to avoids these spikes that wreck havoc on us.

Diabetics can eat food just like everyone else.Your brother in law can decide on his portions. As far the color green,I would not plan green out of my meals. Why honor something utterly ridiculous?

Ask him or his wife what he normally eats for dinner. Ask him before he comes if he needs anything special to eat. He may follow a diet which allows him a certain number of carbs for each meal, which means he can eat almost anything. But the only way to know for sure how to feed this guy is to ask him straight up about what he eats.
