I’m a type 1 Diabetic since the age of 5, I am now 25 years old…I have a 2 year old boy. I am on the insulin pump with Novolog Insulin…I don’t exercise as I should since my job requires me to be infront of a computer answering phone call and writing complaints.:)…by the time I get home…all I want to know its relax from the big headache I have on daily basis hearing people and infront of a computer,,,nothing I can do economy its bad….
When people ask me for advice on diet I always tell them to check out the South Beach diet. It has lots of helpful information on carbs and some great recipe ideas. I use Novolog in my insulin pump as well. Best of Luck.

google it …… u WILL find out EVERYTHING u need to know

I just finished taking a year-long nutrition course and we had to try out a "test diet" for 2 weeks for one of our assignments. My uncle is diabetic (type 2) and he recommended I try the Low-GI (glycemic index) diet. I’m sure you’ve heard of it, but I didn’t see you mention it up there so I thought I would just bring it up one more time.
It comes with a list of all the lowest GI foods so you can just pick and choose whichever you want that day, and they keep your blood-sugar as steady as possible without the help of insulin, they release the energy slowly into your body.
Here is a site where you can check it out or ask your doctor for more information!

Cheers! and good luck, I’m sure it must be awful, hang in there, new things are always coming up

i’m younger than you, and i’m a type one diabetic too, so i don’t know if i can help too much but i’ll try. as long as your AIC levels are where they’re supposed to be, then that means that you have your diabetes under control.
if you need help coutning carbs, there are books at barnes&noble or borders that have carb counts for almost every fast food restaurant, as well as irregular foods. since you’re on the pump, i would highly recommend using the wizard (if you don’t already.)
all i would say is to monitor your blood sugar before you eat every time, test whenever you feel sick or have a strong headache (i get those when i have a high blood sugar.) also to eat in moderation and always count carbs.
haha don’t know if i helped, but best of luck! ?

I would go with Low Carb 20-30 carbs a day so that you need less insulin. Carbohydrates are just sugar molecules hooked together and will break down into glucose which means you need more insulin.

I’ve heard that doing weights is especially good for diabetics as we aren’t able to use protein as well for our muscles so weight exercise helps. If you HBA1C is fine then you are controlling it well and i wouldn’t worry too much about your current diet and exercise. But i find that weights are easy if i am busy. I do 15-20 minutes of weights 3 nights a week e.g. 3kg weights, sit ups, push ups, lunges. You could google exercises and find heaps. So that works. Even takinng your 2 year old to the park on the weekend to play catch or a play on the playground can be exercise for you if you walk some of the way.
