Continuous Blood Glucose Monitoring For Diabetes

Continuous blood glucose monitoring is an essential process taken in a diabetic patient’s life. Accurate knowing of glucose concentration level is the main purpose behind continuous blood glucose monitoring. For proper care, a diabetic patient should perform blood test at least once per day. But in the process of continuous blood glucose monitoring, the glucose level will be continuously monitored by an electronic device. By recognizing the amount of blood glucose level on a continuous basis, a diabetic patient can plan his diet accordingly.

Now we will come to the older and basic test process for glucose monitoring. This testing is usually done by prinking the fingertip of the patient and taking the drop of blood on a chemically active disposable test strip. The test strip is then inserted to a glucometer from which we will know the blood sugar level value. But research says that this method of determining blood sugar level will not be accurate since there is non uniform body blood flow. If the testing is done at places like arms and legs, the test results won’t be accurate. Accuracy will also depend upon parameters like type of test strips, quality of sugar monitors used and eye vision of patient. There comes the advantage and importance of using continuous blood glucose monitoring.

A continuous blood glucose monitor shows the rise and fall of glucose level continuously. Electronic sensor, link to the sensor and monitor are the three vital parts of a continuous sugar monitor. Let’s see the working of a continuous glucose monitoring. A sensor with sticky patch, attached to the patient’s body will detect the glucose level and sends data to the monitor. Monitor will be either carried in a bag or will be attached to the patient’s body. Monitor will then displays the latest glucose test results which will continue in each few minutes.

Continuous sugar monitor or CGM should also be tested and calibrated for its accuracy by comparing the test results with finger strip blood glucose test results. Senzime and FreeStyle Navigator are examples of continuous sugar monitoring products. A continuous blood glucose monitors identifies the glucose level in interstitial fluid whose glucose value will be lesser than the blood glucose level. Depending on data received from sensor, insulin pump injects the correct proportion of insulin to the patient’s body.

By analyzing the glucose level acquired by test result, a diabetic patient can plan and reorder his lifestyle. Frequency of testing depends on many factors like type of diabetes, treatments etc. Continuous glucose monitoring helps in determining proper insulin dosage and diet. Proper rearrangements can be done on insulin dosage, diet and exercise on the basis of this test result. It also shows us the body’s response to these medications. Some of the continuous sugar monitors is provided with alarms for giving alerts to the patients in condition of hypoglycemia and hyperglycemia. These alarm instructions helps diabetic patients in taking necessary precautions for maintaining the glucose level. Patients can easily self manage the glucose level by referring sugar monitor. Thus continuous blood glucose monitoring helps in providing a complete control over the health there by preventing the chance of risk due to risen and fallen glucose level.

The diet is just a balanced healthy diet which is very important for management of diabetes. The amount of food and their distribution are controlled from day to day. Some diet control will be necessary for the rest of the patients life. Some studies explain that despite of makeup in the diet, enough calories in the body to sustain an ideal weight are mainly the helpful dietary approach to avoid the onset of diabetes.

In people suffering from diabetes it is very important for them to have a proper diet. Diabetes diet is a complicated dieting plan it is not a particular food that can be obtain off the shelf. Diabetic diet is a healthy eating pattern that involves nutritious foods. This diet is not only practiced by a diabetic individual but also by healthy persons who desire to have a healthy and fit lifestyle.

Overweight diabetics are primarily placed low calorie diet, since weight loss results in well again tolerance to carbohydrates. Sufficient calories are given to individuals of normal weight to maintain their common weight. Proteins are given for about 1.5 gram per kg body weight is usually allowed. The higher level is more typical for patients who show a preference for protein- rich foods.

Carbohydrates should be 60% to 70% propose by the American Diabetes Association. But this is rather a contentious since some research recommended a diet that is low in carbohydrates. With this reason it is good to consult your dietitian regarding in your diabetes diet. Prepare to have a diet for your diabetes with similar or equal amount of carbohydrate during every mealtime to sustain the right blood sugar in your body through out the day.

Always remember to eat in the right amount of the most healthy food, because too much of it can be bad for the body. Diabetic individuals should create and start a regular eating pattern for the meals and snacks. An individual who have receiving insulin or other diabetes medication the eating pattern of it will be more stringent.

The ABC of High Blood Sugar

It is a fact that many people suffer from high blood sugar, and this is not a disease that affects only diabetic people. This article is intended to analyze the different aspects of high blood sugar, such as; what the levels after eating are, reasons why your blood sugar is increased, symptoms of high glucose levels, range of concentration, how to test your blood sugar levels and why this is important. Finally some tips about how to control sugar levels. Hopefully after this reading, you will get a better understanding of blood glucose process.

Blood Sugar After Eating – Blood sugar goes up after eating, but returns to normal range within 1 to 2 hours. Blood sugar level (also known as blood glucose level) is the amount of glucose (sugar) in the blood. It is also known as serum glucose level.

Blood sugar levels 1 to 2 hours after eating are called postprandial. Research shows that blood sugar levels in people with diabetes can more than double after eating, even when their blood sugar before eating is normal.

Blood Sugar Increasing – Blood sugar levels are increased in the early morning hours because of the normal release of hormones – growth hormone and corticosteroids -, a reaction called the dawn phenomenon. And blood sugar may shoot too high if the body releases sugar in response to low blood sugar levels, known as “somogyi effect”.

Blood sugar levels below 45 mg/dl are almost always associated with a serious abnormality.

Blood Sugar Symptoms – Blood sugar levels just above the safe range may make you feel tired and thirsty. You may sweat, feel very hungry, weak and anxious, feel your heart pounding in your chest. However, If your blood sugar level stays higher than normal for weeks, your body will adjust to that level, and you may not have as many symptoms of high blood sugar, for that reason is very important that you control your glucose levels regularly.

Blood Sugar Concentration – Blood sugar concentration, or glucose level, is tightly regulated in the human body. Normally, the blood glucose level is maintained between about 4 and 8 mmol /L (70 to 150 mg/dl).

Blood Sugar Testing – Blood sugar tests measure how well your body processes sugar. Some blood sugar tests are used to diagnose pre-diabetes or diabetes. Blood sugar that is too low, known as hypoglycemia, can make you feel sick as well. Blood sugar monitoring and maintenance is particularly important for those who suffer from diabetes, this is a condition related to the release of insulin from the pancreas into the blood stream and the ability of the body to use that insulin efficiently.

Blood Sugar Control – The way to control blood sugar is trough insulin, this one is a hormone made by the pancreas, it carries the sugar from your blood into your cells, where the sugar is used for energy. The right amount of insulin helps keep your blood sugar level balanced. Therefore, the job of insulin is to keep blood sugar levels from rising too high.

In conclusion, this article gives you some basic information about how glucose levels work in your body. Nevertheless, it is quiet important that you visit your doctor for specialized advise.

Hypoglycemia – Causes, Symptoms and Treatment Methods

Hypoglycemia or low blood sugar is a problem that is much over-looked by many doctors today. Hypoglycemia can be due to alimentary problems, idiopathic causes, fasting, insulinoma, endocrine problems, extrapancreatic causes, hepatic disease, and miscellaneous causes. Sometimes the cause of hypoglycemia is unknown (idiopathic). In these cases, people who are not diabetic and who do not have another known cause of hypoglycemia experience these symptoms. Hypoglycemia can produce a variety of symptoms and effects but the principal problems arise from an inadequate supply of glucose as fuel to the brain, resulting in impairment of function ( neuroglycopenia ). Insulin is a hormone that reduces blood glucose. It is produced by the pancreas in response to increased glucose levels in the blood. The symptoms of hypoglycemia can vary from person to person, as can the severity. Hypoglycemia, also called low blood sugar, occurs when your blood glucose (blood sugar) level drops too low to provide enough energy for your body’s activities. There is another type of hypoglycemia. In some people, the body simply responds differently to the digestion of foods. Some foods are digested and absorbed rapidly, resulting in a burst of glucose entering the bloodstream. Classically, hypoglycemia is diagnosed by a low blood sugar with symptoms that resolve when the sugar level returns to the normal range.

Hypoglycemia is relatively common in diabetics. In people who don’t have diabetes, some underlying causes of hypoglycemia include: certain medications; alcohol; certain cancers; critical illnesses such as kidney, liver or heart failure; hormonal deficiencies; and disorders that result in your body producing too much insulin. A rare type of hypoglycemia, known as reactive hypoglycemia, may occur in children and teens without diabetes. Some symptoms of hypoglycemia are caused when the body releases extra adrenaline (epinephrine), a hormone that raises blood sugar levels, into the bloodstream to protect against hypoglycemia. If you take in more glucose than your body needs at the time, your body stores the extra glucose in your liver and muscles in a form called glycogen. Your body can use the stored glucose whenever it is needed for energy between meals. Patients with pre-diabetes who have insulin resistance can also have low sugars on occasion if their high circulating insulin levels are further challenged by a prolonged period of fasting. Hypoglycemia can arise from many causes and can occur at any age. The most common forms of moderate and severe hypoglycemia occur as a complication of treatment of diabetes mellitus with insulin or oral medications. The adrenergic symptoms often precede the neuroglycopenic symptoms and, thus, provide an early warning system for the patient. Studies have shown that the primary stimulus for the release of catecholamines is the absolute level of plasma glucose.

Causes of Hypoglycemia

The common causes and risk factor’s of Hypoglycemia include the following:

Hypoglycemia occurs when too much insulin or oral antidiabetic medication is taken, not enough food is eaten, or from a sudden increase in the amount of exercise without an increase in food intake.

Pregnancy.

Renal glycosuria.

Increased activity or exercise.

Excessive drinking of alcohol.

Hypoglycemia may result from medication changes or overdoses, infection, diet changes, metabolic changes over time, or activity changes; however, no acute cause may be found.

Symptoms of Hypoglycemia

Some sign and symptoms related to Hypoglycemia are as follos:

Hunger.

Nervousness and shakiness.

Headache.

Dizziness or light-headedness.

Heart palpitations.

Tremor.

Excessive sweating.

Sleeping difficulty.

Cold sweats.

Rapid heart rate.

Pale skin color.

Sudden moodiness or behavior changes, such as crying for no apparent reason.

Treatment of Hypoglycemia

Here is list of the methods for treating Hypoglycemia:

A snack or drink containing sugar will raise the blood glucose level, and you should see an immediate improvement in symptoms.

Eating smaller meals more frequently.

To treat low blood sugar immediately, your child should eat or drink something that has sugar in it, such as orange juice, milk, or a hard candy.

Regular exercise.

In more serious cases, the child may have to undergo surgery to remove the pancreas.

Episodes of reactive and fasting hypoglycemia in children without diabetes can also be treated with a fast-acting carbohydrate.

Patients may require 6 small meals and 2-3 snacks per day.

If you pass out, you will need IMMEDIATE treatment, such as an injection of glucagon or emergency treatment in a hospital.

Numerous Non-Invasive Glucose Monitors under Development

Diabetics are still awaiting a reliable, non-invasive means of blood glucose monitoring – one that doesn’t require breaking the skin or confirmation with a traditional monitoring method. The latest continuous glucose monitoring technology involves small sensors implanted in the skin that must be calibrated several times a day, and replaced every few days to a week to avoid infection. Because the blood sugar testers are implanted into the skin, the body sees the sensors as foreign objects, and frequently forms scar tissue around them.

The FDA approved one non-invasive monitor in the 2002 – the GlucoWatch Biographer. Worn on the wrist like a watch, the device used a small electric current to draw fluid through the skin, and a sensor to analyze the fluid’s blood glucose levels. But at least half of the diabetics that used the product complained of skin irritation and sores, and the product was discontinued in 2007.

Despite the GlucoWatch disappointment, diabetics should not give up hope of being able to avoid multiple daily finger pricks to keep track of their blood sugar. Numerous non-invasive blood glucose monitors using different technologies are currently in development, including:

1) GlucoTrack – Integrity Application’s GlucoTrack employs three differenttechnologies: ultrasonic, conductivity and heat capacity. The device contains a main unit, a transmitter, a receiver and processor, and a sensor-containing ear clip. The main unit can support and store blood sugar readings for up to three users.

2) Symphony – Developed by Echo Therapeutics, Symphony is a biochemical sensor-based transdermal continuous glucose monitoring system with a wireless handheld device that reads the sensor’s measurements.

3) Multisensor Glucose Monitoring System – Developed by Solianis Monitoring, this system delivers continuous information on glucose variations using impedance spectroscopy – a technology that uses frequencies to measure the effect of changes in blood glucose levels.

4) Portable blood glucose meter – Grove Instrumentsis working on miniaturizing a prototype blood glucose monitor which delivers a reading using Optical Bridge technology. The user simply inserts his or her finger into a port to obtain an optically assessed blood sugar test reading in less than 25 seconds.

5) Glucose Monitor Tattoo – Researchers at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology are testing a continuous glucose monitoring “tattoo” in which florescent nanoparticle ink is injected under the skin. The ink fluoresces in response to glucose when an infrared light is shone on it, telling a small monitor how much it detected.

6) Electronic thumb-pad sensor - Texas’ Baylor Universityresearchers are testing an electronic thumb-pad sensor which detects blood glucose by measuring changes when electromagnetic energy waves pass through the skin.

7) I-SugarX – Freedom Meditech is pioneering the I-SugarX, an ophthalmic medical device which monitors changes in the eye to determine glucose levels. The user gazes into a handheld device which shines a light on the eye for less than a second, and then displays a digital blood glucose reading.

8) Near infrared optical spectroscopy – Inlight Solutions is developing devices that use near infrared optical spectroscopy and multi-variate analysis to measure blood glucose levels. The technology employs a light source, an optical detector, and a spectrometer.

9) LighTouch Technology – Uses a glucose test technology that projects a specific color of light onto a patient’s finger, and analyses the different colored light that is “re-projected” back from the finger to measure blood glucose levels.

For those diabetics who must measure their blood sugar daily for accurate insulin dosing, a glucose monitor that does away with not just the pin prick of blood testing, but also the added expense of glucose testing supplies, can’t come soon enough.

Nutrition is all about what a person with diabetes eats. Nutrition and diet mean the same thing. A person with diabetes has 3 ways to control their blood sugar levels: Nutrition, physical activity and medication. The combination of good diabetes nutritional supplements and physical activity prevent pre-diabetes and Type 2 diabetes.

The Food Pyramids

Good Supplements for diabetes involves maintaining a well-balanced Diabetic diet plan that includes whole grains, protein, dairy, vegetables, fruit and some unsaturated fats.

Americans are accustomed to seeing the traditional Food and Drug Administration pyramid on every cereal box and FDA-approved publication. While the American food guide pyramid is by all means healthy and comprehensive, we thought it would be fun to share food guide pyramids reflecting the histories of many other ethnic beginnings, cultures and beliefs.

The importance of nutrition for Diabetics requires that we find all sorts of ways to help you create a useful Diabetes food pyramid. To meet that goal will keep working to bring missing pyramids to you. As an option, pick one and adopt it as your own. Eating in the ways of our traditions cannot be a bad thing.

Remember how much smaller plate sizes were, so watch your portions. Click to see Portion Control PlatesAlso, remember how physically active our great grand-parents were, so daily exercise is a must.

Physical activity and exercise is the key to making good diabetes nutrition work. We have to burn excess sugar and fat that we eat. If we choose the traditional approach to eating, it is important to note that we are choosing a way of life, not just the foods that we grew up with and love.

Core Principles of Diabetic food Diet and Nutrition

Pre-Diabetes
Why is Nutrition Important?
Pre-Diabetes Diet

The core principles of proper diabetic supplements are centered on reducing blood sugar levels and increasing healthy vitamins and minerals in the diet. diabetics, especially, should adhere to the principles of the Diabetes Food Pyramid in order to ensure that they have balanced diabetes nutrition to keep their bodies healthy.

However, unlike the general population, diabetics are not always able to process glucose at the cellular level . That is why, it is important for diabetics to understand the chemical reactions that take place in their bodies as they eat food. Understanding the biology of Diabetes is the first step in taking control of your diabetes treatment so that you can live a healthy Diabetics life.

Many Diabetics feel overwhelmed when they are first diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes, Type 1 diabetes, or Gestational Diabetes. Properly managed diabetes, will required you to make some basic lifestyle changes, especially in the way that you approach food. You will definitely need to limit your sugar/carbohydrates in-take.

For example, love pasta? Yes you can still have this food that you love. Only now, a better choice is whole wheat pasta instead of the traditional styles of pasta. Also, you need to limit your food serving sizes (one serving = 1/2cup cooked or baseball) instead of all you can eat. Generally, for all the foods that you love, there is an acceptable alternative that makes you happy and your blood glucose level also.

Know that these lifestyle changes are entirely manageable and will make you healthier and happier as you begin to incorporate them into your regular eating habits. You can feel comfort knowing that millions of diabetics have had to make simple changes to their nutrition plans. To help Diabetics enjoy healthier food choices, many diabetes organizations have developed tips, diabetes meal plans, food, and healthy eating guidelines. Use our interactive learning module on Sugars and Starches to learn more.

Diabetes Healthy Eating Guidelines

Diabetes is a disease that is directly related to your sugar intake and corresponding blood sugar level. Due to the nature of diabetes, the body cannot process sugars the way that it should. Therefore, in order to keep your blood sugar level as low as possible, it is important to limit the amount of sugar/carbs that you eat and take all medications prescribed by your doctor. Remember that a starch unit can made up of thousands of glucose units.

For people who have been diagnosed with diabetes for more than 8 years, add a urologist or urogynecologist to your medical team. Bladder dysfunction resulting from nerve damage (autonomic neuropathy) effects 40% to 80% of the diabetic population. You may not even know your bladder is not operating properly.

Many people with diabetes benefit by using specially-crafted diabetes shoes, especially if they suffer from a loss of sensation in their feet. Shoes for diabetics are designed to be soft, comfortable, and custom fitted to the feet, which many diabetics may not feel after they lose foot sensation.

Have you been feeling excessively thirsty nowadays? Do you have wounds which are not healed yet after continuous treatment? Do you feel like you’re suffering from extreme fatigue and you can’t understand why? If you’re answer is yes then you might have diabetes. These are just some of the primary symptoms of diabetes not to mention blurry vision, being frequently irritated and frequent urination.

Diabetes is a serious metabolic disease wherein a person’s body has high blood sugar level because the pancreas does not produce enough amount of insulin. Insulin which is produced by the pancreas is a hormone that is responsible for the metabolism of sugar. Once there is not enough insulin in the body, blood sugar will increase damaging the tissues of the body starting from the eyes, the gall bladder and the skin. This disease is then something that shouldn’t be taken for granted.

We eat food and drink everyday. When we are stressed, we tend to eat excessive amount of sugar to relieve the stress. During holidays, we eat high amount of carbohydrates and foods with lots of sugar in it. Then, we don’t drink a lot of water. These things contribute to the development of diabetes. Basically, the food that we eat is broken down by digestive juices into sugar or what we call glucose. This glucose though has to be metabolized by the insulin in order for the body to use it normally and when insulin is not enough, the risk of getting diabetes is very high. To prevent this, people have to follow a diabetic diet.

When diagnosed with diabetes, the doctor usually recommends a diabetic diet. A diabetic diet is usually composed of food low in carbohydrates or normal amount of carbohydrate and simple sugar. This means that once you are on a diabetic diet which one of the treatments of diabetes, you have to avoid eating sugar, food with high level of carbohydrate and food low in calories. Seeking help from a nutritionist would help you follow your diabetic diet provided that you nutritionist coordinate with your doctor to monitor your condition.

A diabetic diet however, is not enough for those people who have diabetes. Diabetes is not easily cured but treatment would be longer if the patient only depends on his diet. The diabetic diet should be coupled with exercise. Being overweight or obese is one of the causes of diabetes. Thus, watching your weight not only through eating but losing or maintaining the recommended weight through exercise would help. Basically, jogging 45 minutes to 1 hour a day would help you burn your calorie-intake everyday. However, it is still recommended that you consult your doctor for the right exercise for you to pair your diabetic diet.

Gestational Diabetes Symptoms – How To Manage Gestational Diabetes During Your Pregnancy

Unlike the symptoms in diabetes type 1 and 2, gestational diabetes symptoms are hardly recognized as signs of diabetes due to the pregnant condition of a woman. They are often manifested in the form of excessive thirst and frequency in urination, but are usually treated as part of the child-bearing stage.

The main gestational diabetes symptom indicative of the disease is the elevation of the blood sugar levels. Hence, great care should be taken that high blood sugar levels should be treated with utmost urgency in order to avoid any complications that can affect the woman’s pregnant condition. The following information about gestational diabetes may be useful to any pregnant woman:

The Root Causes of Gestational Diabetes

Pregnancy involves the active participation of your placenta as it produces hormones to sustain you and the developing baby in your womb. However, these hormones have the tendency to render your cells resistant to insulin.

As you enter the second and third trimesters, the more hormones are secreted since your pregnant body demands it; this however makes it more difficult for the insulin to help your cells absorb glucose.

The pancreas tries to help by producing more insulin to thwart the insulin resistance of the cells, however, there is now an over production of insulin, which was not successful in opening the cells to glucose absorption. Glucose in the blood increases, insulin level increases yet the body cells remain wanting in glucose supplement, due to its resistance to insulin.

          ]]>

You may now experience excessive thirstiness and frequently urinate to pass the excess glucose out of your system. These now are the gestational diabetes symptoms taking place.

Who are Prone to Gestational Diabetes?

1. Gestational diabetes may occur in any woman who is 25 years or older, but some women have greater risks in developing gestational diabetes.

2. Women with familial history of developing gestational diabetes from where she may have acquired the genetic deficiency.

3. Women who were pregnant before and likewise developed gestational diabetes during the previous pregnancy. Usually this is true among women whose baby weighed about 9 pounds upon delivery or those who experienced an unexplained stillbirth.

4. Pregnant women who were already overweight even before the onset of the pregnancy.

5. For unexplained reasons, statistics show that women who belonged to the following ethnicity: African, Hispanics, American Indian or Asian are prone to develop gestational diabetes during their pregnancies.

Managing Gestational Diabetes during Pregnancy

Address your pregnancy with more concern by making more trips to your health care provider for pre-natal checkups. This is very important particularly during the last three months of pregnancy for constant monitoring of your blood sugar level.

Ask your health care provider for a referral, regarding other health professionals who can help you in managing your gestational diabetes during the term of your pregnancy. This may be an endocrinologist, a registered dietitian or a diabetes educator. In extreme cases, your health care provider may refer you to a doctor who specializes in high-risk pregnancies.

These professionals can help you in all aspects of gestational diabetes to ensure that your diabetes disorder will not lead to any complications that may endanger your life and that of your baby’s.

If you are among those women who have a high risk of developing gestational diabetes, do not wait for gestational diabetes symptoms to take place before taking the proper preventive courses of action.

Diabetes Blood Sugar Control

Blood sugar control is critical for all people suffering from type 2 diabetes. High blood sugar levels can be very damaging to the body because of the inflammation that it causes. Many people do not understand the connection between high blood sugar levels and inflammation.

Blood sugar control can play a major role in reducing inflammation in the body. As blood sugar levels increase in your body, the glucose or sugar in your blood stream can bond with your red blood cells. Sugar connects itself to the hemoglobin molecule which is part of the red blood cells. If your blood sugar levels are in control, there is a lower amount of sugar that is attached to the hemoglobin. If you do not have your blood sugar levels under control, then the amount of sugar attached to the hemoglobin molecules becomes very high. This is particularly the case for people with type 2 diabetes.

          ]]>

Glucose or sugar attached to the red blood cells can be compared to sand paper. It forms a crystalline crust which acts as an abrasive. The abrasive around the red blood cells damages the circulatory system. Damaged arteries begin to be sealed off by cholesterol which can lead to heart attacks and strokes for people with type 2 diabetes. It is therefore very important to
keep your blood sugar levels in check to ensure that the sugar does not attach itself to the hemoglobin.

Abrasive red blood cells can also break and destroy delicate capillary beds. Capillaries are the smallest blood vessels in the body. Patients with poor blood sugar control tend to have increased damage in areas with a high concentration of capillaries such as feet and hands. Destruction of capillaries leads to a loss of blood flow in to areas such as hands and feet,
and may result in amputations for people with type 2 diabetes.

Damage to the body by inflammation has long term consequences for people with type 2 diabetes. It is clear that people suffering from type 2 diabetes need to be extra careful to manage their blood sugar levels. Maintaining proper blood sugar levels is critical for good health, especially for people suffering from diabetes.

If you are a type 2 diabetic who is having problems with managing their sugar levels, please consult your physician right away. If you are someone suffering from the symptoms listed above, but have never been diagnosed as a diabetic, please consult your physician right away and get tested. Diabetes is a serious, potentially damaging, but reversible disease. You can feel better. You deserve to feel better.

Top 4 Ways to Manage Your Diabetes Diet at Weddings and Graduations

A Type 2 diabetic diet and meal plans is all about controlling the number of calories people with diabetes eat. Because, unused calories become body fat. And, excess fat cells reduce insulin’s ability to remove sugar from the blood.

With the summer just around the corner, it’s time to gear up for weddings, graduations, cookouts, and other celebrations that, often, involve large amount of food and small amounts of sugar-free options. Here are some tips to help you eat healthy & diabetic food plan (without having to take your own food) to this summer’s events.

Snack Beforehand

A healthy snacks for diabetics and diabetic dessert before attending a summertime event may help to satisfy you for longer than if youCarrots was to attend the event on an empty stomach. Have a handful of carrots with peanut butter about thirty minutes before the event. The sugar in the carrots will give you energy while the protein in the peanut butter will help you stay full.

Stay Hydrated

While you certainly don’t want to make it through an event drinking water alone, water can help you to feel full if the healthy food for diabetes options is limited. Water will not only hydrate your body and keep you cool from the summer heat, but water will also keep your stomach from growling until you can get your hands on something healthier.

          ]]>

Skip the Bread and Buns

Bread is a normal part of many summertime meals. Whether you are served a roll at a fancy wedding reception, or a bun with that char-broiled burger, it’s important to remember that Diabetics need to be cautious when it comes to dining on diabetes carbohydrates. Therefore, remove (or avoid) the bread in order to stay in better control of your blood sugar level. And hey – don’t worry about people staring at you for eating a bun-less burger – skipping unnecessary carbs can be trendy, especially in the swimsuit season!

Appreciate the Veggie Tray

Nearly all hosts and hostesses will set out a fruit and veggie tray for their guests, regardless of the kind of event. Veggie Tray Therefore, even if everything else on the table is cooked in grease, fried, or filled with sugar, healthy snacks of diabetes & food-seeking folks can find something to nosh on.

Pile your plate high with a variety of veggies and add a small portion of cheese and wheat crackers for fully well-rounded diabetic diet meals that would delight even the most meticulous nutritionist. Warning: stay away from dips, unless it’s a low-sugar yogurt dip. Veggie dips can quickly tack on an additional 300 or more calories without to what would otherwise be a healthy meal.
