Dear Claudia:

That will depend greatly on what type of Diabetic are you.
Speaking in general terms… a diabetic has to watch what he/she eats very carefully.

A well balance diet for a diabetic will consist of health servicing of Vegetable, salad, small portions of rice and other foods that contains lots of carbs. Protein such as fish or Meat. Generally speaking the doctors don’t want you do eliminate the carbs because they are important for energy and for growth.

Plus is especially hard for some diabetics to gain weight so carbs are needed to help with that. Also, avoid drinking natural juices from the box. If you have to drink it mix it with water. If you feel low eat fruits instead of sweats preferably.

Drink lots of water especially before going to bed. It helps keep the sugar level down. Know by heart the foods that contain lots of carbs and by all means. Count your carbs. You will need that to prepare your insulin shoots if applicable (Type I diabetes).

Like I said that will depend if you are type one or two Diabetes. Type II is not too bad. you can keep it under control by a combination of good eating habits, exercise and medicine.

Most important, your health care plan should send you and the and care providers in your home (father or mother or both) to a Healthy eating habits for diabetics and how to count carbs class. It is crucial to know how to eat well and count your carbs.

Let me know if that shed some light?

Regards,

Here is a quick rundown:

              g of carbs / g of protein / g of fat
Starch 15 / 3 / 0-1
Milk
whole 12 / 8 / 8
2% 12 / 8 / 5
1% 12 / 8 / 3
Skim 12 / 8 / 0
Fruit 15 / 0 / 0
Veg (non-starch) 15 / 2 / 0
Veg (starchy) 15 / 3 / 0-1
Meat
High Fat 0 / 7 / 8
Medium Fat 0 / 7 / 5
Lean 0 / 7 / 3
Very Lean 0 / 7 / 0-1
Fat 0 / 0 / 5

Each one of those is grams PER SERVING. To see what counts as a serving go to this site: http://www.healthcentral.com/diabetes/diet-000042_6-145.html
You are worried about carbs cause you are diabetic, so focus on that and try to distribute your carbs throughout the day with 3/10 in the morning, 3/10 for lunch, 3/10 for dinner and 1/10 as a night time snack.
Even better go see a dietitian and the two of you can go over this for real and work out a meal plan for you. Good luck

I know a lady who had to go on a diabetic diet for health reasons. I was wondering if there was anywhere that I could find a meal plan for a 1800 calorie or 1600 calorie diet, that lists foods for each meal and snacks etc etc. I know for a dieabetic diet just cut out sugar, but the meal plans actually break it down. Please help.

I know what you’re saying, but it is a little complicated because meal plans ideally are created by a nutritionist/diabetes educator specifically for you. It also takes a little education; it’s not simply "eat a sandwich for lunch." I’ll list what my meal plan looks like. I’m on 2000 calories, and I’m pregnant, but basically by eating more veggies and reducing some of the carbs you would have the right calories and it’s more appropriate for non-pregnant eating:

Breakfast:
1-2 Starch
1 protein
1 fat

Snack:
1 starch
1 protein

Lunch:
2 starch
1 fruit
1 veggie
3 protein
1 fat

Snack:
1 fruit
1 protein
1 milk

Dinner:
3 starch
2 veggie
3-5 protein
2 fat

Snack:
1 milk
1 fruit or starch
1 protein or fat

The trick is to know what that translates to. Starches are whole-wheat, low glycemic carb servings that equal 15 grams of carbohydrates. Fruits are also 15g of carbohydrates. Protein servings would be 7g of protein, and milk would be 15g of carbohydrates.

My doctor gave me a meal plan. It spells out exactly what I can eat and how much of it for each meal, including snacks.
I’ve had gestational diabetes twice and am staying on the diet to keep me from getting adult onset. Ask your doctor if he/she can give you a sample meal plan.

Much good luck on that one!! Most hospitals, dieticians and nutritionists follow the USDA food pyramid for meal planning. They do not take into consideration that each of us is individual and cannot eat all the foods recommended for diabetics.

I suggest that you consult an Endocrinologist and Certified Diabetes Educator in your area.

I have on record, that the doctor that admits me to hospital ask my daughter what foods to include on my plate and that I be allowed to administer all my own maintainance meds from my personal supply.

I cannot eat most of the carby foods on the list of "good for diabetics" foods! I would much rather see people watch the grams of carbohydrate per plate than a set number of calories.

I have hypoglycemia along with a never ending list of other conditions and need to find a book or place on the web that can give me recipes and meal plans for hypoglycemia. I know supposedly diabetic meals will work for hypoglycemia but i am still a little leerily. I am married, in college and working and going back and forth to the doctor so i don’t have alot of time to plan out meals myself. If anyone knows any places on the web with meals and recipes catering specifically to hypoglycemia i would appreciate the knowledge.

Diabetic diet plans are focused on reducing carbohydrate intake which reduce the excessive production of glucose in the blood stream; since you have the problem of not having enough of it to begin with, it just sounds counter-intuitive to me. It might just be as simple as eating every 3-4 hours and carrying a sweet snack on you should you get low. But I’d suggest you ask your doctor about a possible diet plan, or refer you to a nutritionist or dietitian.

I am a diabetic and i want to start eating healthy. i take 30 units of insulin twice a day. Help me out.

Look at this site.
It has dietary information, but more importantly, it has a cure.

Diabetes

All diabetics have a common fluke parasite, Eurytrema pancreaticum, the pancreatic fluke of cattle, in their own pancreas. It seems likely that we get it from cattle, repeatedly, by eating their meat or dairy products in a raw state. It is not hard to kill with a zapper but because of its infective stages in our food supply we can immediately be reinfected.

Eurytrema will not settle and multiply in our pancreas without the presence of wood alcohol (methanol). Methanol pollution pervades our food supply — it is found in processed food including bottled water, artificial sweetener, soda pop, baby formula and powdered drinks of all kinds including health food varieties. I presume wood alcohol is used to wash equipment used in manufacturing. If your child has diabetes, use nothing out of a can, package or bottle except regular milk, and no processed foods.
