By staying true to a diabetes treatment plan, you can dramatically cut your downside of developing complications tied to diabetes such as heart and kidney illnesses and can also prevent circulation and vision problems. Diabetes is a life-threatening disease that must be checked regularly to make sure that your blood sugar levels are withinstandard ranges. The best fashion to do this is by following a regular exercise regimen, following a healthy diabetic meal plan, learning to keep your weight at healthy levels, maintaining a relaxed lifestyle and taking your medications as directed. With these changes, you can manage your diabetes successfully and live a healthy, long life.
Whereas Type two diabetes can be managed successfully using a proper diet and maintaining an active lifestyle, Type one diabetes needs more aggressive measures to cure, usually in the form of insulin therapy administered through injections or through the employ of diabetic insulin pumps.
What kind of insulin to use ‘ll depend on the particular condition and the doctor ‘ll need to monitor you closely to decide the insulin types needed. There are plenty of forms of insulin that are typically used for insulin therapy, fast acting, short acting and intermediate acting.
Fast acting insulin is typically taken right before a meal as they can start to take effect within 15 or so minutes after dosing. The fast acting insulin types take about 1-one/2 hours to peak and may last for many hours. The drugs NovoRapid and Humalog fall within the quick acting insulin types.
Short acting insulinhas to be taken 30 minutes before eating a meal and normally takes thirty minutes to start taking effect. It will last many hours. Actrapid and Hypurin Neutral are commonly taken medications of this insulin types.
Intermediate acting insulin takes effect within one-1/two hours of being taken, peaks within four to 12 hours, and the effects last up to 24 hours. 2 different medications of this insulin types are Protaphane and Humulin NPH.
There are close to 250,000 people worldwide who choose to employ diabetic insulin pumps for their diabetes care and that number is multiplying fast. The use of diabetic insulin pump therapy allows diabetics more control and flexibility over their treatment plan. Most people today live busy and hectic lives and by using insulin diabetic insulin pumps, they gain more control over their daily activities because they can then eat what they like (without the worry of low blood sugar) and live on their own schedules instead of having to be so rigid. Diabetic insulin pumps are suitable for use with any insulin types. This type of insulin therapy has proven successful for everyone from toddlers to older adults.

Diabetes & Insulin Resistance – Your Food is Controlled by Food Inc
Diabetes & Insulin Resistance – Your Food is Controlled by Food Inc
There is a great documentary video entitled “Food Inc.” that reveals the ugly truth about the food industry. You will never look at the food you eat everyday the same way after you have watched that documentary.
Well, if you are a person that finds documentary videos are somehow too boring to watch, you can get the same message by watching the 5th Episode of CSI Miami Season 8 entitled “Bad Seed”. I can tell that the CSI movie director is trying the send some important message to its viewers.
A very interesting part of the story is about the genetically engineered corn seeds. Those Frankensteins in the lab of the giant agriculture or food companies had played role of god or taken over the rule of nature by changing the DNA codes of the corn seeds. All sorts of so-called “patented” gene are added into the corn’s DNA to create extra functions on it.
One of those secret codes that is exposed in the CSI movie is a gene that is extracted from the Botulinium bacteria which is then inserted into the DNA sequence of the corn seed. The function of this gene is to create an enzyme that enables the corns to be completed digested by cows.
Yupe! I am talking about cow. Those huge, strong, fat and masculine cows you see in the farms (especially those indirectly owned by giant Food Inc.) are fed with corn so that they grow faster and produce more meat. The long term effect of eating this type of corn beef and consuming the genetically fed corn is yet to be known or will never be known, due to some sensitive reasons.
What is all this has to do with diabetes then? Just like most of the modern diseases, diabetes is closely related to your diet. It is hard to say, may be, I mean may be there is some sort of ‘joint venture’ between Big Pharma and Food Inc. This is just a wild thought of mine, the rest of the possibilities is left for your imagination to explore.
Although there are some records that show diabetes is a disease that existed since ancient times. But I can be very sure this is first time in the history of mankind that this disease has become so widespread and grows at the alarming fast rate.
Diabetes is not a natural disease, human are not supposed to have diabetes. The further we advance away from the nature, the more weird and incurable diseases our future generations have to face. You are what you eat. And I believe unnatural food will always produce unnatural internal body environment that promote the growth of unnatural diseases.
We are living in a state of dilemma. We are so used to modern lifestyle and it is almost impossible for us to live in ways that are neared to the Mother Nature. We are somehow ‘forced’ to live the way we are. Since it is hard to run away from those genetically manufactured foods, we might as well focus on finding ways to neutralize the threats.

Looking after your diabetes!
Looking after your diabetes!
I’m Deborah Susan, a dietician and personal trainer specializing in nutrition and physical fitness for diabetics. Today I shall write on how you can look after your diabetes and continue to lead a healthy, normal and fruitful life.
Looking after your diabetes
The secret to continued good health and fruitful life despite diabetes lies in regular testing of your blood glucose, not missing any prescribed glucose tablets or insulin dosage and a healthy lifestyle. Today I will concentrate on how you can monitor your blood glucose.
Monitoring your blood glucose levels (Glucose testing strips)
The key to keeping your blood glucose levels or (sugar levels as it is commonly known), under control is to keep your sugar level within the recommended range of 4 to 7 millimoles per liter. Only regular monitoring with diabetic strips can help you achieve this.
Measuring your own blood glucose levels is quite easy if you have a good quality branded digital blood glucose monitors. If you don’t have one the neighborhood chemist or any online website specializing in diabetes monitoring tools can help you.
When it comes to glucose monitors, accuracy is the key, so do not buy cheap Chinese glucose monitors. Our own branded blood glucose test meter (glucometers) is highly accurate and usually cost between and . In addition to the glucometer, you will also need a box of test strips (~) and a pack of Lancets (~). The diabetic test strip and lancets are to be replenished as and when required. Replace the battery in the Glucometer as and when required. If the blood sugar meters does not have a battery level indicator you should replace the battery in the glucometer every six months or so. A weak battery can induce faulty results.
]]>
Tip: Buy a blood glucose test strips that has a large digital readout, adequate memory and battery indicator.
When and how often you use the blood sugar monitors depends on your treatment, the food you consume and level of physical activity. Apart from regular testing at home, you should also do an HbA1c test every six months. This test is done at your local diabetes clinic and the result gives you an overall picture of your blood glucose levels. HbA1c test results should be as close to 7% (or below). Even a tiny fraction above 7% should be brought to the attention of your doctor.
You can keep your blood glucose under control by:
1) Eating regular small healthy diabetic diet meals so as to avoid major fluctuations in your blood glucose levels.
2) Including adequate levels of physical activity so the insulin in your body works more effectively.
3) Reducing any excess body fat by regular checkup with body fat monitor. (Include half yearly body fat analysis in your health plan/ schedule).
4) Take your diabetes (and any other prescribed) tablets and diabetes supplements according to the schedule given to you.
5) Monitor your blood glucose levels and learn to adjust your treatment according to the results.

Diabetes – Insulin Pumps: Get Better Control, Get Your Life Back!
Diabetes – Insulin Pumps: Get Better Control, Get Your Life Back!
In recent years an alternative to manual insulin injections has emerged. Enter the Insulin Pump.
The first Insulin Pumps were quite bulky, but modern ones are about the size of a small Cellphone or Pager. The pump is worn unobtrusively on a belt or in a pocket and it delivers insulin through a thin plastic tube (or Infusion Set) that is inserted under the skin.
Why an insulin pump is better
Renata Nyleve Editor of the “How To Reverse Diabetes” website — http://www.HowToReverseDiabetes.org — pointed out;
“…In a healthy person, the pancreas produces insulin constantly at low levels, keeping blood glucose levels stable. When a meal is eaten, the pancreas will send larger amounts of insulin into the blood stream to handle the food. Using a standard injection regime, slow and fast acting insulin is used to try and mimic the pancreas. An insulin pump much more closely copies the pancreas. The pump delivers a low level of background insulin (called basal) and at meal times can deliver a “bolus” dose at the touch of a button, to cover the food. Just like a real pancreas, if you are ill, or exercising, the basal insulin rate can be reduced. If you skip a meal, the bolus is not delivered. In this way, the pump fits into your lifestyle, rather than planning your life around your injection schedule…”
Choosing an insulin pump
Most insulin pumps on the market today have all the basic features. Choosing one is much like choosing a Cellphone, it is a mixture of personal taste and what you plan on using it for. If you are a water sports fan, waterproof ones area available! If you love analyzing data to improve your control, you can get one with PC download capability and analysis software. If you are new to the world of Insulin Pumps, here are some key points to think about:
“…Choose a pump that allows you to set up different basal levels. For instance at night time, if you are sick or exercising. This is an important feature to help you live a full life. Pumps that use a standard “Luer Lock” infusion sets are better. This means cheaper consumables. Alerts to remind you to check your blood glucose level make life easier. Check what batteries it takes, standard AA or AAAs are cheaper and easier to buy. More advanced pumps include a carbohydrate calculator to help you figure out what your meal Bolus dose should be. Coming to the market are integrated Insulin Pump/Glucose meters. The meters readings are automatically transferred to the pump which can use them to recommend an insulin dose…”
Other features to look for include, being waterproofhaving a carbohydrate food database and alerts to warn you if you have missed a meal, or the infusion set needs changing. In short, Insulin pump manufacturers are making their products ever easier to use and automating more and more features. Life is getting better for diabetics!
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
-What if I don’t get on with the pump, can I switch back to injections?
Yes. It is not a one way ticket, but most people do notice an improvement in their blood glucose control and find their lives improved.
-I have a really hectic lifestyle, is a pump for me?
Yes. In fact people who are extremely busy often see the biggest improvement. If you struggle to remember to test and inject at the right time – perhaps meal times vary from day to day, then a pump could really help you.
-I am considering a pump but may get pregnant, is that ok?
Yes. As pumps usually improve your blood glucose control, using a pump through pregnancy and beyond is generally a good thing. Having as close to normal blood glucose levels reduces the chances of complications during pregnancy.
-What are the costs?
The initial outlay is in the order of a few thousand dollars, but prices are coming down all the time. Infusion sets need changing regularly too. The latest prices can be found from various diabetes suppliers on the web.

Grapefruit may help to reduce blood sugar levels in individuals that have Diabetes, though studies are not entirely conclusive. However, grapefruit and grapefruit juice have been suspected of having negative interactions with medicines like metformin, cholesterol lowering drugs (statins) and others.
Cinnamon and Diabetes
A few small clinical trials indicate that cinnamon may help to prevent the onset of Type 2 Diabetes. Supporters of this research claim that just a teaspoon of the popular spice is all that is needed to help fat cells respond to the body’s naturally-produced insulin in order to lower blood sugar levels.
Lab studies indicate that cinnamon contains a biologically active chemical called methylhydroxy-chalcone polymer (MHCP). While ladies with gestational diabetes can still deliver ordinary healthy babies, if left untreated, high blood sugar levels may cause issues for you and your baby. Why is it necessary to be tested for gestational diabetes? Let’s take a more in-depth look.
Gestational Diabetes Screening
Till just recently, testing for gestational diabetes was not included as routine prenatal care for most women, unless you had diabetes before becoming pregnant. In 2005, researchers reported results from a study that tracked girls who were pregnant and had gestational diabetes. The ladies who received correct medical therapy for diabetes all had healthier babies and fewer complications than those who had no treatment. Thus, the importance of being screened.
Your physician will likely have you take what’s called the glucose challenge test. What happens is that you will be given a special glucose solution to drink when you come in for your appointment. It is simply an extra sweet solution that kind of tastes like a soda.
Next, you will wait for an hour and the doctor will draw a blood sample from your arm. The results will be known within a day or 2.
If you are blood glucose level is above 140 mg/dL, do not panic. You will then be given a second test to confirm any diagnosis of gestational diabetes.
Chase up Gestational Diabetes Test
For the follow up glucose test, you will need to fast overnight before the test for no less than eight hours. You will be asked to have nothing apart from water during that time. If your blood sugar is high for two of those 3 hours, you may be diagnosed with gestational diabetes.
If in truth it is confirmed that you have gestational diabetes, your health practitioner will very probably put you on a special diet and exercise plan for the length of your pregnancy. In some cases daily insulin medication may also be required.

Healthy and Fulfilling Life despite Diabetes
Healthy and Fulfilling Life despite Diabetes
I’m Deborah Susan, a dietician and personal trainer specializing in nutrition, physical fitness and diabetes diet plan for diabetics. Over the years I’ve noticed a trend in the questions that diabetics and their family members have been asking. Also, many of my clients had often suggested I not let my knowledge and experience go waste; instead, I should write a book that would help society cope and live a healthy life despite diabetes. A friend recently suggested I start with an article and if I like the response I could write a book.
Although many have said I have a way with words, I must state that I am not a writer or author and have until today, never written so much as an article let alone a book. I’ve decided to take the plunge primarily because I have seen intense and unnecessary suffering caused by wrong information, phobia, misguidance and myths. Lack of proper guidance and knowledge ultimately proves expensive in more ways than can be imagined.
In writing these article, it is my ardent desire to provide useful, practical knowledge (including a few low fat low carb recipes for diabetic) to help people living with diabetes to make decisions that enable them to live successfully with diabetes.
To begin with, although 99% of you probably already know what diabetes is, I’d like to define it precisely so that at the end of this first article, we are all on the same page and do not have differing ideas on what diabetes is.
What is diabetes?
Diabetes is a condition in which your body cannot control the level of glucose (sugar) in your blood because (a) your pancreas (not kidneys) does not produce enough insulin or (b) your body cells are resistant to the action of insulin, that’s why we take insulin diabetic syringes.
When your blood glucose level rises, the glucose cannot get into the cells which means despite all the sugar, your body is deprived of energy. Lack of energy triggers the break down and conversion of fat and muscles into alternate source of energy. Always prefer to use diabetic glucose meter for checking your glucose level regularly
What goes wrong in diabetes?
Since the Glucose in your blood does not get utilized, it gets flushed out through urine. Meanwhile the body breaks down fat and muscle as an alternate energy source causing rapid (and dangerous) weight loss. Rapid break down of fat causes build up of toxic chemicals in your blood. If left unattended, all organs in the body begin to deteriorate and fail, ultimately leading to death – and a painful one at that.
Type 1 Diabetes
Myth: Diabetes begins with Type 1 and then progress to Type 2
Truth: Wrong! Type 1 and Type 2 are two totally different types of diabetes
People diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes do not produce any insulin. They need to be treated with insulin given by insulin syringes & injection or via diabetes Insulin Pump. (Insulin via a tablet would not be effective as it would be destroyed in the digestion process).
Type 2 Diabetes
This is the more common form of diabetes. Obesity is the primary reason for Type 2 diabetes. People diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes do not produce sufficient quantities of insulin. Initially your pancreas respond to the demand (created by obesity), by producing more insulin. However, it cannot do so indefinitely. Corrective action includes reducing body fat by checking through Body Fat Scales and leading a healthier lifestyle. If corrective action is taken soon enough, then people suffering from Type 2 diabetes need not take any medication such as glucose tablets or glucose supplements and can lead a healthy normal life. Failure to take corrective action will create a need for insulin injections to supplement the inadequate quantum of insulin produced by your pancreas.
Myth: Type 1 diabetes is serious
Truth: Yes and No. However Type 2 likely to be more harmful because people often have it for years before being diagnosed. Having it for years can lead to long term complications.
Now that we know what diabetes is, in my next article I shall attempt to answer the second most frequently asked question: Why does diabetes develop?
I hope my effort in writing these articles helps you lead a more knowledgeable and healthier life.

www.PreOp.com Diabetes Patient Education Insulin is the hormone normally made in the pancreas that stimulates the flow of sugar – glucose – from the blood into the cells of the body. Glucose provides the cells with the energy they need to function. There are two main groups of insulins used in the treatment of diabetes human insulins and analog insulins, made by recombinant DNA technology. The concentration of most insulins available in the United States is 100 units per milliliter. A milliliter is equal to a cubic centimeter. All insulin syringes are graduated to match this insulin concentration. There are four categories of insulins depending on how quickly they start to work in the body after injection: * Very rapid acting insulin * Regular, or Rapid acting insulins * Intermediate acting insulins * Long acting insulin.
