where do i find a good diabetic diet? one that is livable, not starving.?
my doctor has me on a 1200 calorie / carb diet, and exercise. i’m starved all the time, and it makes me sneek food while my family is asleep. they have been great helping with cooking healthy meals, and supporting me by eating the same as i, and they don’t bring home fast foods, junk food, etc. they have been great. it’s just 1200 cal/carb diet for someone who is 44, and large just isn’t enough. please give me serious help, sarcasom sets me off in to depression. i’m reaching out to you.
Oh dear! 1200 calories is not much to live on. Your doctor must think you really need to lose weight fast. How long have you been on this diet? Sometimes it takes a while to get adjusted to smaller amounts of food.
My husband and I are both diabetic. The doctor has put him on a 2000 calories diet. He still stays hungry all the time. He gets plenty of food on this diet, but he has that diabetic crave. He just tries to stay as busy as he can to keep food off his mind.
Did your doctor send you to a dietitian? If he didn’t you need to ask him to. A dietitan can plan a diet that is just right for you, Knowing what to eat and how much sometimes goes a long way in helping a diabetic reach goals. Some people eat three regular meals a day and some need to eat six small meals a day. It really depends on the person and their health problems.
Our dietition gave my husband 5 carbs at a meal and me, four. We have a small portion of protein, 100% wholewheat bread, 1 small fruit, 1 cup 1% milk, 1/2 cup starchy vegetable, such as corn or potatoes. Plus, we get a small side salad and 2 tablespoons of light dressing. For my husband’s fifth carb, he can have 1/2 cup of Jello with just a dab of light Cool Whip or 3 sugar free cookies.
I know the struggles that you are going through, but don’t give up! Diabetes is a life long struggle with all the complications that come with it. My husband has struggled everyday for about 18 years. Because of his out of control blood sugars, he now has stage three renal failure, high blood pressure, very bad diabetic foot pain, coronary heart disease, had a stent put in. Since he found out about his kidneys failing, he has gotten very serious about his diet and keeping his blood sugar under control. He has lost 60lbs. in less than a year.
I would suggest that you talk with your doctor about you staying hungry all the time. Maybe he could increase your calories.
I wish you the very best, I feel for all diabetics, and every time I see someone asking a question on Yahoo Answers about diabetes, I say a prayer for that person and try to help answer their question.
I don’t know if this has helped or not, but please take care of yourself. You can take comfort in knowing that many, many diabetics are struggling just like you. We understand.

What is a 1200 calorie ada and renal diet?
I AM A DIABETIC OF 21 YEARS WITH – SLIGHT KIDNEY DISFUNCTION AND TRYING TO AVOID MORE. WHAT CAN I USE TO CLEAN THE TOXINS FROM MY SYSTEM? ALSO WHAT FOODS ARE LIMITED ON A RENAL DIET?
Come on… if you have "slight kidney" dysfunction its not the renal diet you need its the sugar control after 21 years you know that.
I have been a diabetic all my 47 years I just started on dialysis 5 months ago. It is the last stop for me that is why its called END Stage renal failure. DON’T even or every go there!!! its not fun its not helpful! its just what it is… a way to stay alive!
After 21 years and you don’t know what a 1200 diet is you need some super serious help. I am not trying to me mean but from where Im sitting you are the very blessed one.
Your toxins are still cleanable by drinking plendy of water, distilled if you really want the best
Us on the renal diet can’t drink more than 3 cups of ANY liquid in a 24 hour time. thats even the part of the jello, puddings, and we even have to count the " teaspoons of salt soup" they give if the blood pressure goes to low during dualysis! even the water I use with my pills!
A renal diet is not really a diet its a big book of forbidden foods, never a baked potatoe again, never a fresh veggie or fruit again. Im allowed 1/8 canned peaches but I have to count them into my liquid too!! NO black drinks such as diet coke, strong tea, oh… and coffee
Hope you get the picture….. Stick with the care of your blood sugars, be happy and thank your blessing every day when you enjoy your fresh water.
is it safe for a diabetic on blood sugar meds to go on a 1200-1500 calorie diet?
You really need to talk to your endocrinologist about this one. Decreasing your calorie intake could be really harmful if you are insulin dependent. This could change your basal rate and affect the units per dose of insulin. If you are over weight your doctor would favor going on such a diet, but check first because your meds may need adjusted.
