Plan a two course meal for a person who is a diabetic.?

Here is a great site with lots of menus preplanned for the diabetic diet.

where can i find detailed hospital meal plans for diabetics?

i am looking for meal plans for a diabetic thats on a 2000 calorie meal plan restricted diet.

Much good luck on that one!! Most hospitals, dieticians and nutritionists follow the USDA food pyramid for meal planning. They do not take into consideration that each of us is individual and cannot eat all the foods recommended for diabetics.

I suggest that you consult an Endocrinologist and Certified Diabetes Educator in your area.

I have on record, that the doctor that admits me to hospital ask my daughter what foods to include on my plate and that I be allowed to administer all my own maintainance meds from my personal supply.

I cannot eat most of the carby foods on the list of "good for diabetics" foods! I would much rather see people watch the grams of carbohydrate per plate than a set number of calories.

Please help me find the best diet for me a type 1 diabetic, besides exercise and meal plan, that I already knw?

I’m a type 1 Diabetic since the age of 5, I am now 25 years old…I have a 2 year old boy. I am on the insulin pump with Novolog Insulin…I don’t exercise as I should since my job requires me to be infront of a computer answering phone call and writing complaints.:)…by the time I get home…all I want to know its relax from the big headache I have on daily basis hearing people and infront of a computer,,,nothing I can do economy its bad….

When people ask me for advice on diet I always tell them to check out the South Beach diet. It has lots of helpful information on carbs and some great recipe ideas. I use Novolog in my insulin pump as well. Best of Luck.

You are worried about carbs cause you are diabetic, so focus on that and try to distribute your carbs throughout the day with 3/10 in the morning, 3/10 for lunch, 3/10 for dinner and 1/10 as a night time snack.
Even better go see a dietitian and the two of you can go over this for real and work out a meal plan for you. Good luck

hypoglycemic recipes and meal plan?

I have hypoglycemia along with a never ending list of other conditions and need to find a book or place on the web that can give me recipes and meal plans for hypoglycemia. I know supposedly diabetic meals will work for hypoglycemia but i am still a little leerily. I am married, in college and working and going back and forth to the doctor so i don’t have alot of time to plan out meals myself. If anyone knows any places on the web with meals and recipes catering specifically to hypoglycemia i would appreciate the knowledge.

Diabetic diet plans are focused on reducing carbohydrate intake which reduce the excessive production of glucose in the blood stream; since you have the problem of not having enough of it to begin with, it just sounds counter-intuitive to me. It might just be as simple as eating every 3-4 hours and carrying a sweet snack on you should you get low. But I’d suggest you ask your doctor about a possible diet plan, or refer you to a nutritionist or dietitian.

Where can I go to get meal plans for my diabetic condition.?

This is all new to me and I want to start doing right for myself.
I have to lose weight and watch out for certain foods. Where can I find out all this information.

in my area they offer diabetic nutrition classes. usually you would have to get a referral from your diagnosing doctor. Ask your doctor for more information, there could be classes available to you all paid for by your insurance. look in your phone book or ask around your pharmacy too.

what are some meal plans for a diabetic who won’t eat anything green?

My brother in law is planning to visit us for a week.He will not eat any food the color green and he is a diabetic. Breakfast and Lunch are figured out, it is a week of dinners I am having trouble planning.
I did not know that a diabetic could eat wheat tortillas and wheat pasta or about the yukongold potatoes. Thanks for that.
re:Spaghetti and meatballs. Wouldn’t that be too much starch?

My best friends husband is diabetic and you can make grilled chicken with yukongold potatoes (its a complex carb potato the only kind of white potatoes that people with DM can have), as well as red sauce (or gravy depending on what area you are from) with wheat pasta, Anything with pasta as long as it is wheat. Um as well as chicken fajitas as long as the tortilla is wheat, my friend’s husband eat fish a lot, pot roast, pretty much any meat is good, wheat pasta with grilled chicken in a Alfredo sauce. Check out some Diabetic websites. Take care and have a good visit with him.

what kind of meal plan is good for a diabetic? like what do you eat for breakfast ,lunch and dinner?

Dear Claudia:

That will depend greatly on what type of Diabetic are you.
Speaking in general terms… a diabetic has to watch what he/she eats very carefully.

A well balance diet for a diabetic will consist of health servicing of Vegetable, salad, small portions of rice and other foods that contains lots of carbs. Protein such as fish or Meat. Generally speaking the doctors don’t want you do eliminate the carbs because they are important for energy and for growth.

Plus is especially hard for some diabetics to gain weight so carbs are needed to help with that. Also, avoid drinking natural juices from the box. If you have to drink it mix it with water. If you feel low eat fruits instead of sweats preferably.

Drink lots of water especially before going to bed. It helps keep the sugar level down. Know by heart the foods that contain lots of carbs and by all means. Count your carbs. You will need that to prepare your insulin shoots if applicable (Type I diabetes).

Like I said that will depend if you are type one or two Diabetes. Type II is not too bad. you can keep it under control by a combination of good eating habits, exercise and medicine.

Most important, your health care plan should send you and the and care providers in your home (father or mother or both) to a Healthy eating habits for diabetics and how to count carbs class. It is crucial to know how to eat well and count your carbs.

Let me know if that shed some light?

Regards,

Cesar
