In Gestational diabetes ,which one is better 2 hr or 1 hr blood glucose tests?
Some doctors use 1 hour blood glucose test with a target of less than 130. Others use 2 hour test with a target of less than 120.
What will be the impact if my blood sugars are around 160 to 170 after one hour and around or little less than 120 after two hours?
If you aren’t experiencing gestational diabetes then your glucose should never be as high as 160 to 170. Non diabetics do not reach such extremes. You may be classified as borderline.
If you have diabetes type 2 and you keep your blood glucose levels around 100, can you still get neuropathyy?
I watch what I eat and take the Metaformin and still I am getting terrible toe pain from nuropathy and half the time I can’t see to read or write a letter. Is my body still being damaged even though I am doing good at trying to control my blood sugar?????????
Diabetes is a progressive disease and doesn’t start at the time of diagnosis. Most diabetics have had it for a few years prior to diagnosis as their blood sugars were gradually creeping up. As we all know it’s a very individualized disease and you may had had some nerve damage occurring prior to and after diagnosis.
There are specialists that can definitively determine if that’s the case with both your feet and eyes.
I wanted to answer the question on diabetes,IE blood glucose, My answer: 70-110mg?
The question? what is a "normal" fasting blood glucose?
MY answer: 70-100mg
Its a pity the Americans don’t stay off the UK and Ireland site. The information they give is toally wrong for the Uk market. We measure blood sugars in millimols per litre. A good figure is between 5 and 7.
how do you get strips for testing blood glucose, to control diabetes?
There are three ways , that I know of, to get test strips.
1. From a pharmacy. They keep them locked up behind the counter so you need to know what type of meter you have. The normal price for test strips are 25- $29. 50- $49 100- $89. They are expensive.
2. get your doctor to write a prescription if your insurance will pay for them
3. Some churches give away testing supplies to needed people. I have done this before when I was broke and it was very helpful. Your doctor should have a list of churches/organizations that do this.
Good Luck
What does a blood glucose level of 113 mean (not diabetes related)?
Hi.. Blood Glucose level at 113 mg/dl may appear after taking meal or in fasting conditions also….! 113 mg/dl means 113 milligram glucose is present in per 100 ml of blood….! Normal range of blood sugar is in Fasting condition 80-120 mg/dl and in after 2 hrs of taking lunch PP( i.e. Post Pendriel) it may be rise up-to 100-140mg/dl.
mainly Insuline harmone regulates the bood sugar level in our body… so disorder of blood sugar mainly concert with this harmone. if blood sugar level is 110-120 mg/dl or more then 120 in fasting condition then u should go through GTT( glucose tolerance test ). i hope this information will realy helps u..! bye
How does the air heat (40-50 celsius degrees) influence the blood glucose at a person diagnozed with diabetes?
Actually, according to the following, the blood glucose goes down as the body expends energy trying to cool its self down:

I’ve been showing some symptoms of diabetes, but my blood glucose is only 3.4?
My sister has type 1, so I’m well researched on it, and recently I’ve had the same symptoms as she had.
I’ve lost weight, becoming very thirsty, and urinate excessively. As well as this, I’ve been very dizzy, my vision blurred.
I think the normal blood glucose level is 4-7?
Does anyone know why this might be?
3.4 is a little to low and will cause dizziness. Low sugar level is just as dangerous as excessive sugar if not worse. You need to see a doc immediately. Dont waste time here looking for the right answer. You need a professional advice…and this is a professional advice of a sort….agree?
My free diabetes screening revealed 94 mg/dl for fasting blood glucose level. Is that bad?
I’m a 23 yr old male with some weight issues. I had the diabetes check yesterday morning, however, I’m never hungry in the mornings, and my blood sugar usually drops in the afternoons, evenings, and nights.
However, I’ve been dealing with quite the opposite for the past several years- low blood sugar known as hypoglycemia. I read numerous studies and articles on it and knew that’s what I had.
No, that’s great. Fasting blood glucose should be between 70 and 100mg/dl. Your result is great.
That indicates that you are not at risk for hyperglycemia, or diabetes.
Hypoglycemia is defined as a glucose (or blood sugar) reading below 70mg/dl. This is likely what you would see on a meter if you were to test yourself when you feel lightheaded, dizzy, etc. in the afternoon, evening, and nights.
Good luck in managing your hypoglycemia.
Do they periodically check toddlers blood glucose for diabetes?
I was wondering if they periodically check blood sugar levels in toddlers. It never occurred to me that it might be possible my daughter could have diabetes. Her fasting levels are about 119-125 and her eating levels are about 170 to 260 being the highest. She doesn’t drink soda or cool aid and usually drinks water or milk. I don’t know whether children’s sugar tend to run higher or whether they should be around the same. I have gestational diabetes and my grandfather had type II, but my daughter eats healthy and if anything has more trouble gaining weight than anything. I know part of the signs but she has seemed to always be hungry (since birth), never gained weight (She weighs 22 pounds at one month shy of two), and her attitude is sometimes very outspoken and cranky, (well, she is almost two and has always had a little bit of an attitude) and she has never really acted that differently than usual. She takes one to two naps and sleeps at night and in general is a very well behaved toddler. I talked to my mom (who was a registered nurse) about the sugar levels and she doesn’t think I should be concerned. I’m calling a doctor tomorrow (but wont be able to schedule until Tuesday due to the fact that I have 3 appointments for my pregnancy tomorrow), but want to hear opinions about what anyone who has diabetes thinks. Even if your someone who knows about diabetes. I’m a little bit of a diabetic idiot (wonder whether they have diabetes for dummies) so don’t know what normal ranges are. I only know that an adults fasting should be around 80 and about 120 or so for eating. I don’t even know what the highest normal range is for an adult. Only that 80 and 120 are the round about normal ranges (I’m not even sure that is right). I was only diagnosed a week ago with gestational diabetes. Please don’t say ask your doctor. I am taking her, but in the meantime I would like to know what the best thing to help maintain her sugars. I only give her Splenda when it comes to sweets. Do I need to get cherrios and throw away fruit loops? Can she have juice at all? I don’t have things like cookies or anything at all. I have veggies, fruits and meats such as chicken and shrimp and lean lean beef.
No they don’t check toddler’s blood sugar on a regular basis. This is too much information for me to address all of it, so I’m going to just give you the basics. At that age it’s most likely type 1 … but with numbers that low you very likely have just caught it at the beginning. Take her to the doctor soon, it can get dangerous quickly.
Type 1 diabetes does not have to do with weight or diet, and it is not your fault if your daughter has it. Type 1 is an autoimmune disease where the immune system attacks the cells that produce insulin until they don’t work anymore. It’s the same type of thing as an allergy, which is when the immune system attacks things that are harmless. Except this is much more serious, of course.
And it has nothing to do with your gestational diabetes, or your grandpa’s type 2. They are different diseases with different causes. The treatment is different too.
what reading on a random glucose blood test indicates diabetes?
Two or more random glucose blood tests with a reading of aproximately
196 or higher in the USA,
11.0 or higher in Canada
usually leads to a diagnosis of diabetes.
However, most doctors will not rely on this test. Instead they will do a fasting blood glucose test, and look for a reading of
126 or more in the USA,
or 7.0 or higher in Canada
An even more reliable test is the glucose tolerance test. You fast for 8 to 12 hours, (depending on the labs requirements). Your blood is drawn twice, once as a fasting level and once 2 hours after drinking a sugery drink. If your two hour test is over
196 in the USA or
11.0 in Canada
Then you probably have diabetes.
Another test used is the Hba1c, which shows your average blood glucose over the last three months.
These last two tests can tell your doctor a lot about how your body is handling carbs and sugar.
There are readings below these that indicate pre-diabetes, and the standards for diagnosing diabetes may change, as many doctors feel that these levels are too high, and the sooner you get diagnosed the better.
If you have pre-diabetes, or diabetes, take it very seriously. Educate yourself and take care of yourself.
