Well, your Doc should advise you on this.Or,do you have a Nutritionist or a diabetic counselor?? Any changes that you make will affect the stability of your blood sugar level. The goal of diabetes management is to prevent peaks and dips in blood glucose levels. So, if you change your caloric intake and you continue with the same dose of your meds, it is a recipe to throw your sugars off. I hope that this helps.
References :
Medical Professional, RN. Internal Medicine

A diabetic needs to watch carbs as well as calories. You need to talk to your doctor and dietician. You all make a team and should work together. If you really want to lose weight, the diabetic diet, if followed strictly will cause a gradual weight loss, help bring your sugar under control. Add exercise to that and WOW! you have the perfect formula for weight loss.
References :
You really need to talk to your endocrinologist about this one. Decreasing your calorie intake could be really harmful if you are insulin dependent. This could change your basal rate and affect the units per dose of insulin. If you are over weight your doctor would favor going on such a diet, but check first because your meds may need adjusted.
